Sir Duke – Stevie Wonder – Sheet Music for String Quartet

From Stevie Wonder’s 1976 album ‘Songs in the key of life’, ‘Sir Duke’ topped the charts in the US in 1977. Written as a tribute to Duke Ellington, who’d died 2 years previously, the song contains references to many of the jazz greats.

Wonder said, ‘I knew the title from the beginning but wanted it to be about the musicians who did something for us. So soon they are forgotten. I wanted to show my appreciation’.

Arranged here in its original key, don’t let the key signature put you off – it’s all surprisingly under the fingers for players with a great unison ending.

Sir Duke is available to download only at, as a pdf of score and parts for $12.99.
