Web Design

Dury started designing websites in 1997. His first site, 'flat49' saw him and a fellow university student chronicalling life in a shared flat of 5.5 people (one was rarely there), in what was a very early blog.

Largely self-taught, Dury designs CSS-based sites. This allows clients to change text or pictures themselves without fear of destroying the layout or structure of the site. As most people want to be found via search engines, Dury chooses not to incorporate Flash into his designs.

Portfolio

The Ardeton String Quartet

This site has been one of Dury's largest projects. Dury is a founding member of the quartet, and the site has been the primary source of contact with clients since the quartet began in 2001. Usability is the main priority here, with a clean image and yearly redesign to create exactly the right impression of the group.

This site contains contact forms, photo galleries, audio and video demos.

The Latin Pianist

Raimundo wanted a site to advertise his piano teaching and performing activities. His brief was very simple: something clients could find and understand easily. As a result he provided relatively few words for his site, and let his audio tracks do the selling. The navigation is simple - exactly where users would expect it to be. To give the site a contemporary feel I used striking background images (which change on each page), all of which were taken by me specifically for the site.

The Ardeton Ensemble

The Ardeton Ensemble is the sister group of the Ardeton Quartet. The site needed to share some basic characteristics to show the link between the two groups. With a simple layout, the site has plenty of boxes to keep visitors up-to-date with the latest concerts etc, with the main focus of the site being the excellent photographs taken by professional photographer Benjamin Harte.

Violin Lessons

Sarah Eales is a Bristol-based Violinist and Violin teacher. The emphasis here was for prospective pupils (often parents) to find the site and information quickly and easily. The site's content and navigation are therefore optimised for Google and search engines, targeting specific keyphrases. The site is also logically structured for visitors to find out information first about Sarah, then teaching areas, and fees etc. The site has a very simple, elegant, contemporary feel with very few pictures - allowing the information to come to the fore very easily.

Designed for you

The primary focus of Dury's designs is always usability. It's rare that a client will want a website that alienates a percentage of readers or browser users, so website navigation becomes the 1st brick around which the designs are built.

Dury specialises in search engine optimisations - afterall, there's no point in having a website built which can't be found. Dury is always happy to spend time helping optimising sites with keywords and phrases customers or visitors might use. From there the structure of the website will often evolve.

Dury is always happy to talk through requirements with clients, and in many cases will create a 'mock' website as an image for clients to see before committing to building a site. Throughout the process, Dury will consult the client on all the relevant aspects, including optimising the textual content of sites, and optimising photographs so that visitors aren't kept waiting.

There are no set-fees for websites, and Dury is happy working to a variety of budgets. He is also happy to optimise or 'tweak' sites that clients may already hold.
